Hydration Station

Updated: Oct 17, 2018

It’s hot—SUPA HOT—which means that you’re losing more fluids than you might think. Yeah, you drink lots of water, and that’s fantastic, but are you actually rehydrating? It goes without saying that we need water to function properly. Our cells need lots of water to move the garbage out of the cytoplasm and into the lymphatic system, which is then flushed out of the body. That’s why you feel like hammered dog crap when you’re hungover. Your body is pushing the poisons out (yes, alcohol is a poison), and it’s struggling hard because of the lack of water.

Not all liquids rehydrate.

Confusing, I know. A large group of liquids that we consume have diuretic effects. It makes you urinate more, causing you to expel more water than you are taking in.

Dehydrating Drinks

-Coffee

-Sodas

-Tea

-Alcohol

You can still drink these in moderation but be cautious about making these your only source of hydration. Water is always the best option when looking to replace your bodily fluids. Are you not a fan of plane water? Then try jazzing it up with some fresh cut fruit and fresh herbs tossed in. If that’s too much work for you, then adding a water flavor product, like Mio, is a great option.

Flooding the System

To stay adequately hydrated, drink small amounts all throughout the day. Drinking too much H2O all at once will flood your system. Your body won’t be able to absorb all of the fluids, and some will pass straight through you.

Sodium Intake

You’ve probably heard of water retention. That’s a real thing. Having a high sodium diet will cause your body to hold on to the water that you drink, which isn’t always a good thing. The water in your body needs to be flushed and replaced. If not, you hold on to toxins that sit in your lymph nodes making you feel sluggish. Cut back on high sodium products like salted nuts and chips.

The moral of the story is, when in doubt, drink more water. It’s one of the best ways to wake up and feel refreshed. Taper the water consumption down as the day goes on so you’re not up every hour in the bathroom. After a few days of more water, you’ll be able to feel and see the difference.
